FM channel allocation
As a listener, I am frustrated by the amount of interference on AM radio. Can we move all those stations to FM by creating more channels in FM or by allocating more stations adjacent to each other by what I have suggested below?
My idea is to create more FM channels by creating a new FM transmission profile say 'FM Mono' which has a bandwidth of only 6kHz(max. audio frequency 3kHz?) and no stereo or RBDS. The inter-channel spacing could be the rest of the current bandwidth(94kHz?).
Since the channel spacing is very wide, there should not much interference from adjacent channels and we can allocate stations very close to each other.
I assume FM receivers don't have to be changed only the FM transmitters have to be modified to filter the output bandwidth down to 6kHz.
I am not sure whether this is technically feasible since I am not a broadcast engineer.
Thanks for reading my comments.
