We want to hear from you. As parents, tell us your burning questions – the ones you talk most about with your friends, family, teachers and others – surrounding issues related to your child’s online and digital experiences, at home, at school, on mobile phones, tablets and other devices. We have assembled an impressive slate of experts who will answer your questions at a special event on September 8th in Washington, D.C. – “Back to School in a Digital World.” You can watch online at www.fcc.gov/live – and we’ll be posting answers and responses on our blog after the event, too. While this event will focus mainly on teenagers, we’ll also be announcing other events focused more closely on the unique opportunities and challenges of other age groups. So feel free to give us your questions now, and one way or another, we’ll respond!

What questions do you have about how to manage your child's online education experience?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  2. Why is the FCC trying to destroy over-the-air television broadcasting?

Television is a parent's best tool for finding out about weather-related closures and delays, yet the FCC wants to sell the TV spectrum to ATT and Verizon.

  5. Age rating a mandatory requirement to marketers of children's apps

Here are examples: a section of children beloved Toy Story video was re-made using dirtiest language and uploaded to youtube - my 2yr old picked up as the thumbnail is still her favorite Woody. Another example-Angry Bird is very popular game that you can download from either iTune or Android Market, but there is no rating for age. Is it a good thing that a toddler having fun being angry and killing pigs? Movies have different ratings. Why apps don't?

  6. Please comment on the CASA Columbia teen survey correlating social network use with substance use.

The report http://www.casacolumbia.org/templates/NewsRoom.aspx?articleid=648 says teens who visit social network sites daily (which is 70% of teens) are several times as likely to use substances. Correlation isn't causation. But how meaningful do you think their result are; should this report concern parents?

  7. How do we foster school policy to prevent spending on ... [click here for more]

We see schools spending money on technology that has no objective research behind it or is deployed in such a way as to ignore the research - for example, buying electronic blackboards for *all* classrooms even though research shows their benefits only in certain settings. How do we foster school policy to spend our limited funds on technology in a more selective and justifiable way.

  8. Parental preview of online material

Schools must be mandated to allow parents to preview online material that supplement or replace students' pre approved, textbooks? Texbooks are being set aside and parents have no idea what online material is replacing text books, is supplementing textbooks, or is assigned as homework.
