FCC seal on new site has error!
The seal at the lower left corner was a wiring error that stubbornly persists and should be a major embarrassment to an "expert agency" in wireless technology.
The seal shown is the same as this: http://history.nasa.gov/presrep98/fccLogo.gif
Here is the previous longstanding version:
Note the "wiring" different with the horizontal wires which is nonsensical but clearly visible. I assume it comes from an artist making an error and no one reviewing it.
The FCC seal is derived from the FRC seal of the late 1920s:
The FCC seal is basically the horizontal shortwave antenna from the FRC seal with telephone lines superimposed showing the addition of Title II telephone and telegraph regulation to the FRC's Title III-like jurisdiction.
Especially in the size of the seal in the Commission meeting room it really looks ridiculous to anyone with any technical background. While it would cost money to fix the one in the meeting room, a little Photoshop work could fix the electronic one on the website and stop propagating this foolishness.
Thanks for catching the error—were fixing the problem now.

Still not fixed.

Let's be mindful of the federal deficit. No need for the FCC to go back to Congress for a supplemental appropriation to have a new seal made; five minutes with some dark blue acrylic paint and a small brush and the large seal in the FCC meeting room is fixed.

Hey, this is actually genius. They're just patching around a bad phase.

Make it look right ... like it might work!

This electronic version should be given over to someone at the FCC with a little Photoshop knowledge who should be able to make the correction in short order. As for the seal in the Commission meeting room, I would be willing to be part of a group that would make a donation to make that "repair." Can we get an estimate?

Glad to see this has been added as a reboot item. No reply so far from the Chairman's office regarding my April 8, 2011, e-mail, pointing out this error.
