This app would get traffic information in real-time and notify a driver of the most efficient route to a destination.

Yes, Google Maps has a layer that does this, but I think the next (relatively easy) evolution for an app builder would be to take that Google data and allow you to put in your most common routes and receive text alerts with suggested alternate routes. In this sense you could also receive the benefit without a smart phone, but logging in online and then getting SMS updates to your phone.

Google scripts can already provide this feature to g.p.s. enabled phones. Integrating this Google feature into another app would be easy to do via the Google API. As for a stand alone app its really to basic to stand on its own and meet the criteria of this contest. Good idea to use it as a feature in an app within a larger scope and overall larger positive impact to the community.
